06/09/2005 - Javno podjetje Parkirišča gets up to date by introducing 48 new Parking Meters

6 September 2005 – The mayor of Ljubljana Danica Simšič and the managing director of Javno podjetje Parkirišča company Gregor Feist performed the opening ceremony at the setting up of 48 new parking meters which enable the settling of parking fees by using Moneta m-pay services. The opening took place at Trg Mladinskih delovnih brigad, where the first of the parking meters was set up on 13 July 2005; however, it did not to mark the end of the project of setting up parking meters as the company is planning to install additional 102 parking meters.

At the press conference and opening ceremony the mayor Danica Simšič emphasized the significance of the acquisition of new parking meters, which brings Ljubljana in line with modern European capitals providing drivers with advanced and, most importantly, an easier way of settling parking fees. The managing director of Javno podjetje Parkirišča expressed great satisfaction with the first phase of installing the parking meters, and added that the new form of settling parking fees is undoubtedly more user-friendly while also representing a substantial advancement in terms of the company's operations. In his speech Mr Feist also mentioned the problems related to the project and emphasized: “The hardest stage is behind us. Let us proceed in the rhythm of progress”. Mobitel’s Executive Vice President Tomaž Menih also welcomed the setting up of parking meters and emphasized the advantages of using m-pay services: »Moneta m-pay is a simple, fast, safe and convenient method of payment, as we carry a mobile phone with us almost at all times. To execute the payment we simply dial 189 followed by the amount of the parking fee. So, if the payment is SIT 100, we call 189100, establish the connection, and place the mobile phone close to the Moneta terminal. The transaction is carried out within seconds. It is also worth noting that the actual payment is delayed as it is carried out by settling the monthly bill.«

The second third of the planned parking meters will be available to users in 2006, with the total of 150 parking meters operating by the end of 2006. The parking meters accept Slovenian banknotes, while parking fees can also be covered by Moneta m-pay service. The total investment value of the parking meters, its control center, and a three-year maintenance is SIT 270 million (VAT incl.), while the total value of the construction works amounts to SIT 15.8 million. Siemens Slovenija was selected for the establishment of parking meters, the control center and for a three-year maintenance as the best bidder in the public tender of 2004.
